Many people are aware that there is a lot of talk about possible events happening in the year 2012 that are related to the Mayan calendar, but very few people actual understand what these 2012 Mayan prophecies actual mean and how they came about.

The Mayan people had a deep understanding of astronomy and our solar system. They understood the intrinsically cyclic nature of celestial bodies and the effect that this has on human consciousness.
They were aware that our sun synchronizes with the centre of the galaxy every 6, 000 years and that this can create a change on a planetary scale here on Earth as the sun will give off more solar flares and its magnetic field can alter dramatically. They believed that this galactic alignment may result in a massive cosmic event that results in dramatic physical changes on our planet.
In their prophecies they talk about "the time of no time". This is a twenty year period proceeding up to the end of the long count calendar on December 21 2012. They suggested that in this time solar winds would become more intense and visible from Earth allowing man to understand his place in the cosmos to a much deeper level. Contrary to popular belief the Mayan prophecies do not suggest the end of the world as coming; instead they state that it is simply the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.
This new era is called the Golden Age, and it is in this time that the human civilization is transformed from one of fear to one of great enlightenment. The Mayan prophecies state that their culture was the fifth in a line of human civilizations with each being more advanced than the previous one in the form of consciousness.
