DeWALT makes jobsite radios for years. And the latest model is the DC011. If you have second doubts about this radio you should know all the important facts about it. It is a good product but with some major downsides. All in all, it is a good choice with little or no competition.
First thing you should know about it is that you should always remove the battery when not in use. This is important because the battery can go flat in not removed from the unit.
First downside that DeWALT Radio has it the fact that it cannot recharge lithium ion battery packs. This is something no one likes because these days LI-Ion technology is very important for power tool industry.
Also, a big downside is the fact that it cal only charge battery packs from 7.2 to' volt. If you have higher voltage power tools you will not be able to recharge them with this charger/radio.
One of its positive sides is that it can charge battery cells to an equally full level. This way you will be able to work longer with your battery operated power tools.
Many woodcrafters use battery operated tools from Ryobi and some other manufacturers. But these batteries are not compatible with the DC011. This way you will not be able to use one charger for all tools.
This radio is very loud. Seems like DeWALT wanted to make sure that you will be able to hear the tunes even when working next to a DeWALT planer. Some other products are not that good. This unit can deliver up to 92 decibels and that is really loud.
As specs say, the DC011 is water-resistant. This is good and all professionals know that water is all around the worksite. So, you need products that will not break down if they get a little wet. This model has an additional protection - a robust roll cage.
And although it looks very robust this radio charger is very lightweight. It weights around 3.2 pounds and this makes it great for carrying around. Further more, the DC011 is compact so you can fit it into tight spaces.
